Another Beautiful Wedding Day by Scott Patrick Myers Photography Introducing The Strodes!
Caroline and Evan’s romantic Columbia, Missouri wedding was showered with tremendous love, laughter and some rain. This sweet couple live in Portland, Oregon but met at MU and returned to their alma mater to get married.
First of all, Caroline, as you can see is drop-dead gorgeous. And she’s the kind of beauty that loves her chacos and hiking more than anything (and I must say (Sam here) how quickly we bonded over chacos). Due to her laid back personality we made sure there was plenty of down-time as she got ready. As she hung out with her bridesmaids and bridesman at The Broadway Hotel, I was struck by something I had never seen before. Her dad sat next to her as everyone prepared for the wedding, comforting her nerves with a sweet hand on her back. While I’m used to seeing mom’s with brides during their preparation time, Dad’s tend to be absent or maybe stop by for a quick hello. This is probably a result from many brides desiring a “first look” with their dad. It was obvious the unconditional love, protection and support he has for her. I can only pray that Scott can sit next to our daughter on her wedding day like Charles did for Caroline. It was beautiful.
Similarly to the beauty of their relationship was her dress. Her gorgeous BHLDN lace and beaded gown with the most incredible back cut-out I’ve seen. Her romantic look was made complete as her mom zipped up her gown. Another side note to mention is the epic storm that fell upon Columbia as the ceremony approached. In contrast to many couples that hate the idea of rain on their wedding day, these Pacific Northwesterners loved the idea. It’s “good luck” they’d say and for that reason it was not a hinderance, but a sign of comfort. Caroline mentioned several times how much they’ve missed the thunder in Portland. Although they get rain, they don’t have Missouri thunderstorms.
Their ceremony at Columbia United Church of Christ was beautiful, sentimental and a time for worship. Seems like all of the guests were able to arrive without being soaked by the rain. Probably the greatest moments were watching Caroline when she heard thunder — as she approached the sanctuary and after they said their vows. Many guests might have thought “oh no!” when hearing thunder at such monumental moments, but I loved the smile on Caroline’s face — knowing how much she loved it.
Even more, when the ceremony and family portraits ended, the rain stopped and we were able to get outside portraits. I can’t tell you how often this happens on wedding days! After visiting Memorial Union for some pictures we headed to Columbia Country Club for the reception. We love photographing at CCC and working alongside Kristi Rupert. Her smile is contagious!
Above all, the reception was fun and full of lots of dancing after sweet toasts and dinner. We are so excited to see what the future brings for this lovely couple as they continue building their lives in Portland. Congratulations, Mr. & Mrs. Strode! We loved working with you and wish you the best! — Sam & Scott
